Lazy-Girl Guide to Life Capsule Wardrobe Plans
The Lazy-Girl Guide to Life Capsule Wardrobe Plans
Why you need a capsule wardrobe
I was drowning in laundry.
Piles of clothes everywhere. Yet, I still had nothing to wear.
Getting dressed in the mornings took forever and sometimes I was late. I wasted time hunting for items that went together – only to discover what I wanted wasn’t clean, no longer fit, or just didn’t look like the stunning outfit I had in mind.
I had tons of clothes, but I didn’t have a wardrobe.
Fed up, I turned to my best friend Google for help and searched “how to create a wardrobe.” After a journey down the rabbit hole of capsule wardrobe research, I finally figured out what they have in common.
Now, getting dressed is a breeze.
I’m no longer stressed in the mornings, and I discovered I’m spending a lot less money on clothes. I also feel more comfortable in my clothes and finally look put together.
Less Time
Less Stress
Less Money
What is a Capsule Wardrobe?
A capsule wardrobe is a condensed collection of essential items that don’t go out of style, which can be supplemented with a few seasonal pieces. Some people include shoes and accessories such as scarves, belts and purses in their capsules, while others only count clothing items.
The original capsule, created by Susie Faux (the owner of a boutique in London called Wardrobe), consisted of less than 12 high quality pieces. Later, the “capsule wardrobe” was made popular by Donna Karan, who put together a collection of 7 mix and match work wear pieces.
The goal is to have a streamlined wardrobe appropriate for any occasion without having an excessive number of items. The key is investing in classic items in coordinating colors.
What’s the magic number?
There isn’t one.
Capsules vary in size, and you should customize yours so that it works for you.
Project 333 (featured by bemorewithless.com) suggests a capsule wardrobe of 33 pieces for 3 months, rotating each season, while the 5-Piece French Wardrobe actually consists of 33 pieces and adds 5 new trendy pieces each season. Many minimalists strive to have between 20 -50 items, not including specialty clothing such as pajamas, work out wear, etc.
When I first started this journey, I discovered I had 114 pieces! No wonder I was drowning in laundry! Now that I’m a Lazy-Girl, I try to keep my closet between 35 – 40 items or less.
Our goal is to help you spend less, wash less laundry, and experience less stress. We try to make our Capsule Wardrobe Plans comprehensive, yet streamlined.
